Welcome to the Everything but the Kitchen Sink Challenge!

The big surprise is here! Courtney Baker at One Day at a Time has started a new challenge called “Everything but the Kitchen Sink”. Why is it called that? Well, each month we will host a new challenge using every day things from your home. All the fun bloggers involved will take turns hosting! The idea is to get us all thinking out of the box and using everyday things to make fun embellishments and cards.
Courtney is hosting this first challenge, and the challenge is to use something from that day’s mail in your card. How fun is that?! Make sure to go to her blog to check out the official challenge, all the details, enter the challenge and possibly win a $25 gift certificate to Papertrey Ink.
The challenges runs from 9/30 – 10/9. Let’s move on to a card. I’ll give you more details at the end!
I had so much fun with this challenge. It was such a blast going through all the catalogs. I was so glad my beloved J Crew catalog came in time. I used this photo of these beautiful sweaters as my “rising sun”. Then I received a package from my Mom (thanks, Mom!) and used the box to create these hills. I ran some distress ink over it to give it more dimension.
These letters were from a Pottery Barn catalog. I cut them out and popped them up on foam adhesive.
Then I used bubble wrap from my Mom’s package. I popped all the bubbles first, then I inked that part with alcohol inks. Then on the other side I used StazOn ink for the butterfly. On my first try of this, impatience got the best of me, and I decided to heat set it. Bad idea, Kelly! It shrank like a shrinky dink and let off the worst fumes. I was loopy (well, more than usual!) for a while. So, definitely don’t heat set your bubble wrap. I made the butterfly again and let it dry naturally. Much better!

So to recap: Head on over to Courtney’s blog to get all the details and enter the challenge for a chance to win a gift certificate to Papertrey Ink! Woo!!
